The Monumento “Galeón” was created by Manuel Franco Coia in granite and bronze, and was unveiled on May 1st, 2001 in the Ría de Vigo estuary on the shore of Cangas. The granite portion forms the base of the sculpture in the shape of a sinking ship with a female figurehead integrated into the shape of the prow, and a mermaid above.
