Busan’s Princess Hwangok Mermaid

A 4-ton bronze mermaid statue of Princess Hwangok was installed near Doengbaek beach in 1974, but was badly damaged by Typhoon Thelma in 1987. A replica sculpture was created and installed in the original location in 1989.

The statue is 8 ft high. The Princess Hwangok is seated on a rock and holds a magical marble sphere in her right hand which let’s her see her lost home and family.
