Another town in England is adding a mermaid statue to beautify the city and promote art. Read the article here. Hensley is 20 or so miles east of London.
They plan to replace the statue every few years, selling the statue to a local business or other institution. It is a great way to promote the arts.
I recently visited Sioux Falls in South Dakota, and saw their Sculpture Trail, which works on a similar idea – exhibiting sculptures in public for a year or more, then selling them and replacing them with other works.
