Mermaids of Earth

Mermaids are all around us. Lots of them, all over the planet, in almost every culture.

There are mermaid statues, mermaid sculptures, mermaid paintings, mermaid movies, mermaid stories and fables, poems, legends, books, websites and all kinds of other incredible and beautiful mermaid art. There are professional mermaids swimming in customized mermaid tails, making a living performing as mermaids.

This first-ever World Map of Mermaid Statues shows the location of public art mermaid statues across our planet, in practically every culture. Go ahead and explore.

I’m preparing to publish a large colorful book with the best photographs possible of all these public mermaid sculptures – with at least one page dedicated to each mermaid statue. More details coming later.

"Thou rememberest since, once I sat upon a promontory, and heard a mermaid on a dolphin’s back, uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath, that the rude sea grew civil at her song, and certain stars shot madly from their spheres, to hear the sea-maid’s music?
- William Shakespeare – A Midsummer Night’s Dream
And as a bed I’ll take them and there lie,and in that glorious supposition think,he gains by death that hath such means to die,let Love, being light, be drowned if she sink!
- William Shakespeare – Comedy of Errors
"A mermaid found a swimming lad,Picked him for her own,Pressed her body to his body,Laughed; and plunging down Forgot in cruel happiness,That even lovers drown."
