The Lorelie Mermaid in Unity was created by Maine wildlife sculptor Forest Hart and presented as a gift to Bert and Coral Clifford, who in turn donated it to the Unity College Center for Performing Arts. map
The Cliffords were philanthropists and contributed greatly to the town over the years, including several wildlife sculptures by Forest Hart in public locations.
The mermaid is located in the garden next to the Performing Arts building in an idyllic spot under a tree and next to a garden bench.
She holds a starfish in her left hand while sitting on a cresting wave.
