Triton and Nereida mermaid statue in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

In Greek mythology Triton is the son of Poseidon, and the Nereids are the daughters of Nereus and Doris.   Italian artist Carlos Esprino sculpted "Triton and Nereida" in 1987 as merman and mermaid lovers reaching for each other.   map

The mermaid statue and triton sculpture were installed here on the Malecón of Puerto Vallarta in 1990.   It has since been moved twice, and is now installed on a higher pedestal, in arguably the most prominent point on the Malecón.  For a time, the trident in Triton's hand went missing, but it has since been restored to the sculpture.
