Mrs. Lane lived in Drøbak for many years prior to moving to London in 1963, and was well known in the town as she had run a factory there and employed a lot of the citizens. As a thank you to the Drøbak community for the years she lived there, Ingeborg commissioned the mermaid statues and donated them to the city’s marina.

The plaque by the mermaids reads:

“DE TRE HAVFRUER”
Gitt til Drøbak av Ingeborg Drangsholt
med takk for byens store
hjelpsomhet

Translation:
“THE THREE MERMAIDS”
Given to Drøbak by Ingeborg Drangsholt
with thanks for the town’s great
helpfulness
