In the Panjim area of the Goa Province on the west coast of India is a mermaid fountain dating back to probably 1952. map
The fountain and statue were reportedly created in 1952. The mermaid was created possibly by famed sculptor Vishnu Mahadev Cuncolkar, but more likely by Goa sculptor Panduronga Sinai Kamat.
The fountain and water spouts have worked intermittently over the decades since the fountain was created in 1952, and the mermaid has been painted and vadalized numerous times.
Nonetheless, the mermaid is an icon of Panjim and features in posters for city events and anniversaries, such as these:

More photos of the mermaid and the fountain are needed, especially photos after the restorations, and with the water features actually working.
