The Sellők díszkút (mermaid fountain) in Budapest is found in the park just opposite the famous Széchenyi Thermal Baths of Budapest (opened in 1913 and the largest in Europe). map
The baths are supplied by two hot springs providing water at above 165° F which is rich in minerals.
The mermaid fountain was created in a unique style contrasting very precise and rectangular stone blocks with very rough-hewn mermaid figures, inviting the viewers’ imagination to fill in the details.
It was created by artists Jenő Kerényi and István Szabó in 1978, placing the stone mermaid sculptures and a bronze faun inside the 50' diameter pool.
