The mermaid fountain at the University of Birmingham was created by William James Bloye (1890–1975) in bronze and stone. It is located in Mermaid Square at the Guild of Students Building. map
The mermaid in this fountain represents the mermaid from the coat of arms of the earlier Mason University, which became University of Birmingham.
Bloye was an accomplished sculptor, a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and was its President from 1948-1950.
