Royal Academy of Arts: “A Mermaid” – Painted by John William Waterhouse in 1901
This is very likely the most famous mermaid painting, and is referred to by many and is found instantly on the internet if you do a search for mermaids.
This painting was meant to be Waterhouse‘s diploma work for the Royal Academy, but it was not finished in time and another work of his was used for this instead.
